Acest mit literar, crea\u021bie a scriitorului irlandez Bram Stoker, acoper\u0103, cu motivele sale gotice \u0219i scurgerile sale s\u00e2ngeroase, ideea pe care ne-o facem despre peisajele \u0219i curiozit\u0103\u021bile rom\u00e2ne\u0219ti. Motiv supraexploatat, at\u00e2t din punct de vedere cultural, c\u00e2t \u0219i turistic, acesta impunea de la bun \u00eenceput artistului un dublu pericol: iluzia de a putea pretinde c\u0103 subiectul poate fi tratat \u00een \u00eentregime \u0219i cea a convingerii artistice de a trebui s\u0103-l abordeze cu cea mai singular\u0103 originalitate. P\u0103str\u00e2nd la distan\u021b\u0103 reconstituirea unei imagistici vampirice, aten\u021bia ei s-a concentrat pe ceea ce se afl\u0103 \u00een afara cadrului acestei imagistici, pe infrastructura care sus\u021bine aceast\u0103 \u00eentreprindere a fascina\u021biei. \u00cen acest pas lateral, ea a putut conta pe schimburile cu cercet\u0103torul Marius Cri\u0219an \u0219i pe munca acestuia la Universitatea din Timi\u0219oara pentru a analiza fenomenul Dracula \u0219i efectele sale asupra realului.<br>\u2003Implic\u00e2ndu-l \u00een aceast\u0103 aventur\u0103 pe tat\u0103l s\u0103u \u2013 el \u00eensu\u0219i angajat \u00eentr-o cercetare genealogic\u0103 asupra str\u0103mo\u0219ilor s\u0103i rom\u00e2ni \u2013, ea a planificat un itinerar transilv\u0103nean pe urmele celui mai faimos dintre vampiri. La fel ca Bram Stoker, care, nefiind niciodat\u0103 \u00een Rom\u00e2nia, s-a inspirat din ghidurile turistice pentru a descoperi decoruri potrivite pentru secretele personajului s\u0103u, artista a pornit de la circuitele \u0219i locurile turistice care revendic\u0103 acum acest patrimoniu draculesc. P\u0103durile, c\u00e2mpurile \u0219i siturile industriale care defilau \u00een spatele geamurilor ma\u0219inii sale au impregnat-o pe artist\u0103 cu estetica tipic\u0103 a acestor locuri de tranzi\u021bie: pu\u021bin dezolante, pu\u021bin nostalgice, punctate ici \u0219i colo de numeroasele castele austro-ungare. La Hunedoara, contrastul este izbitor, castelul Corvinilor domin\u00e2nd activit\u0103\u021bile miniere \u0219i siderurgice ale ora\u0219ului; l\u00e2ng\u0103 Bra\u0219ov, castelul Bran se \u00eenvecineaz\u0103 cu sta\u021biunea de schi Poiana \u00eentr-o atmosfer\u0103 de <em>Twin Peaks<\/em>. Din aceste disonan\u021be vizuale, arhitecturale \u0219i atmosferice se hr\u0103ne\u0219te gestul ei fotografic. Tat\u0103l s\u0103u, care este \u00een acela\u0219i timp complice, subiect, copilot, asistent, turist \u0219i model, pozeaz\u0103 \u00een scenele imaginate de Cl\u00e9mence Elman, explor\u00e2nd varia\u021biile stilului gotic: goticul ora\u0219elor sau al c\u00e2mpurilor, goticul metalic al anilor 2000 sau, dimpotriv\u0103, goticul religios al secolului al XII-lea. \u00centre lumina difuz\u0103 \u0219i culorile desaturate dominate de tonuri reci, figurile umane sunt imortalizate frontal, cu expresii neutre. Pe l\u00e2ng\u0103 aura misterioas\u0103 care b\u00e2ntuie imaginile, leg\u0103tura cu Dracula nu este \u00eentotdeauna explicit\u0103. Ea se joac\u0103 \u00een detaliu, \u00een similitudini fortuite \u00eentre un r\u00e2nd de copaci decapita\u021bi \u0219i v\u00e2rfurile din \u201eSupplice de Pal\u201d. Elementele arhitecturale austere sau aluziile teatrale ale peisajului \u00eenscriu filmele \u00eentr-o identitate vizual\u0103 post-sovietic\u0103, dar aceasta este confirmat\u0103 \u0219i mai mult de banalitatea transformat\u0103 \u00een ceva straniu, de acel mic detaliu care nu se potrive\u0219te \u00eentr-o aparent\u0103 normalitate.<br>\u2003Cli\u0219eele <em>in situ<\/em> se al\u0103tur\u0103 unui corpus de imagini realizate \u00een studio \u00een Fran\u021ba, arhivelor fotografice sau filmice ale c\u0103l\u0103toriei, dar \u0219i unei serii de colaje absurde ini\u021biate \u00een timpul reziden\u021bei. Pornind de la propriile fotografii f\u0103cute de tat\u0103l ei, Cl\u00e9mence Elman se amuz\u0103 de diferen\u021bele dintre cadrele lor. Turistice pentru unul, estetice pentru cel\u0103lalt, estomp\u00e2nd urmele \u0219i conven\u021biile de gen. Fidel\u0103 practicii sale, o nara\u021biune vizual\u0103 va emerge din acest ansamblu iconografic, instabil \u0219i eteroclit.
